Family Canoe Trips
Women's Canoeing Retreats
Women's Canoe Building Course
Five Days of Reflection: Women's Canoeing RetreatThese trips are an ideal introduction for families wishing to experience our natural heritage in a safe and relaxed atmosphere. We will cover the need-to-know details of getting started as a family team, including camping, paddling basics, and canoe rescue techniques.
Three days of relaxed paddling in Algonquin Park's picturesque lakes allows ample time to explore, hike, fish, take pictures, play ... whatever your family wishes. This is a wonderful opportunity to discover that wilderness travel is possible with children, as well as a wonderful way to form life-long memories.
Stonewood, in conjunction with Kingfisher Canoe Centre, continues to host this unique, three weekend opportunity for women to experience the challenge and rewards of working together with other women to build a traditional cedar and canvas canoe.
During this retreat, special emphasis will be placed on relaxed paddling, camping and superb food. This occasion will present the time and space to be with other like-minded women, while exploring the natural surroundings of Algonquin Park.
Native philosophies will be explored in an informal oral tradition, with connections to nature being emphasized. This is also an opportunity to learn about wild edibles and other natural plant uses, while you increase your awareness of the natural world around you and regain a balanced state of being in your life.
Five Days of Reflection: Women's Canoeing Retreat
This is a longer and more challenging canoe trip with somewhat more demanding portages. The emphasis, however, is still on the enjoyment of our natural heritage and on appreciating the beauty of Algonquin Park.
This retreat offers paddling challenges, time for quiet and solitary reflection, as well as the opportunity to enjoy the restorative camaraderie that being among a group of women can bring.
Wilderness First Aid for Outdoor Leaders
Stonewood, in association with Sirius Wilderness medicine, will offer this 40 hour first-aid course. This training, which spans two weekends, has become the minimum standard for instructors, guides, and other outdoor professionals who work in wilderness settings, as well as for enthusiasts who simply enjoy nature and the outdoors for recreational purposes
Wilderness First Aid Recertification
This is a weekend recertification for those wishing to maintain their qualification from the 40 hour Wilderness First Aid course. ( Recertification is required every two years.)
Day activities for those wishing to spend a few hours in the winter outdoors exploring a new experience.
